Hey everyone, I’m Joe the developer behind BCC Text.
A few years ago, my friend's father was dealing with a family emergency. His mother was in the hospital, and he needed to send updates to 40+ extended family members. He didn't want to create a messy group chat where everyone would see everyone's replies. He just wanted to send individual updates privately.
I realized I had the same frustration when sending invites to casual events. Group texts always turned into an avalanche of notifications from the whole crew. I tried some of the popular event apps but found that they exposed contact info and created social pressure around RSVPs.
Even worse was the enterprise SMS platforms that wanted to charge me $100/year just to send a few dozen messages.
So I built this. It started as a weekend project for my own use, then a few friends tried it, then a few more asked for access. One user called it “a godsend” in a support email. BCC Text sends individual messages to each recipient, not a group thread. Replies come back to you privately, and recipients never see each other. It’s designed for relationship-based messaging, not bulk marketing.
- Do I have to tap send for each contact?
Yes. But at least you don’t have to copy/paste the message! Mobile carriers limit how many texts you can send in rapid succession to prevent spam. BCC Text sends at a human pace (roughly 1 message every 1-2 seconds) to protect your phone number from being flagged. For 50 contacts, this takes about 60 seconds instead of 2+ hours of manual work.
